Beignets From Princess and The Frog

Making man catching beignets straight from New Orleans has never been easier! You will feel like you are sitting in Duke’s Diner with Tiana herself. These Beignets are so delicious served hot, and topped with honey and lots of powdered sugar. It doesn’t get much better than this!

You can make full size beignets or cut your dough into smaller bite size pieces! Also after they are fried try filling them with creme, jam, or chocolate. It’s sooo good!

Recipe below. And watch my video to follow along and see me make them! Tag me if you recreate this recipe.

Equipment

  • Standing Mixer w/ Dough Hook
  • Rolling Pin
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Towel

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 Cups Warm Milk
  • 1 package Instant Yeast
  • 1/3 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Egg at room temperature
  • 3 Tbs Butter Melted
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 3 1/2 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • Vegetable Oil for frying
  • Honey for serving
  • Powdererd Sugar for serving

Instructions

  • Using a standing mixer fitted with dough hook. Combine milk, yeast, sugar, egg, butter, and vanilla extract. Mix for 1 minute.
  • Add Flour and mix for 8-10 minutes. Dough should be tacky, but not too sticky. (If dough is too sticky add an additional 1-3 Tbs of flour).
  • Place dough in a large oiled bowl and cover for 1.5-2 hours. Until dough has doubled in size. (Tip: Cover bowl with towel and keep somewhere warm and draft free for dough quicker. Inside of the OVEN TURNED OFF with just the light on is a great way).
  • Gently deflate dough and Place on a lightly floured workspace.
  • Using a rolling pin roll out dough to 1/4-1/3 of an inch thick and cut into desired shape. I went with large squares to make them look like the movie as much a possible. But you can cut them into smaller squares or rectangles.
  • Heat a large pot of vegetable oil of medium high heat.
  • When oil is ready. Fry dough for just a few minutes on each side till golden brown!
  • Drain on paper towel.
  • Drizzle with honey, top with lots of powder sugar, give your plate a twirl and enjoy!

Notes

If you don’t have a standing mixer you can still make this recipe. You will just need to start mixing the ingredients in a large bowl and then knead dough by hand for 8-10 minutes. It will just take some elbow grease!
