Equipment

  • Standing Mixer w/ Dough Hook
  • Rolling Pin
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Towel

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 Cups Warm Milk
  • 1 package Instant Yeast
  • 1/3 Cup Sugar
  • 1 Egg at room temperature
  • 3 Tbs Butter Melted
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 3 1/2 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • Vegetable Oil for frying
  • Honey for serving
  • Powdererd Sugar for serving

Instructions

  • Using a standing mixer fitted with dough hook. Combine milk, yeast, sugar, egg, butter, and vanilla extract. Mix for 1 minute.
  • Add Flour and mix for 8-10 minutes. Dough should be tacky, but not too sticky. (If dough is too sticky add an additional 1-3 Tbs of flour).
  • Place dough in a large oiled bowl and cover for 1.5-2 hours. Until dough has doubled in size. (Tip: Cover bowl with towel and keep somewhere warm and draft free for dough quicker. Inside of the OVEN TURNED OFF with just the light on is a great way).
  • Gently deflate dough and Place on a lightly floured workspace.
  • Using a rolling pin roll out dough to 1/4-1/3 of an inch thick and cut into desired shape. I went with large squares to make them look like the movie as much a possible. But you can cut them into smaller squares or rectangles.
  • Heat a large pot of vegetable oil of medium high heat.
  • When oil is ready. Fry dough for just a few minutes on each side till golden brown!
  • Drain on paper towel.
  • Drizzle with honey, top with lots of powder sugar, give your plate a twirl and enjoy!

Notes

If you don't have a standing mixer you can still make this recipe. You will just need to start mixing the ingredients in a large bowl and then knead dough by hand for 8-10 minutes. It will just take some elbow grease!
